Top 15 Greatest Heavyweights in K-1 history - debate Empty Top 15 Greatest Heavyweights in K-1 history - debate

Post by Fletch Tue Jan 25, 2011 5:13 pm

My Top 15 Heavyweights:

1- Ernesto Hoost
2- Peter Aerts
-- Semmy Schilt
4- Remy Bonjasky
5- Jerome LeBanner
-- Andy Hug
7- Branko Cikatic
8- Mark Hunt
9- Badr Hari
10- Stefan Leko
---- Alexey Ignashov
---- Francisco Filho
---- Musashi
---- Ray Sefo
15: Mike Bernardo

Notes:

1 & 2: Hoost being smaller than Schilt, plus his K-2 win technically giving him more Grand Prix titles, edges him as #1. Both have FOUR World Grand Prix victories. Aerts has three, but his longevity and amazing record put him up there.

4: Remy has THREE World Grand Prix wins - a highly distinguished career, which only loses out to Aerts due to Peter's comparative longevity in the sport. Bonjasky earned his spot high on the list for only a six year period - 2003-2008

Joint 5: Hug has a World Grand Prix win, JLB does not. However, JLB has one of the finest resumes in K-1 history, and was arguably the #1 fighter from 2001 to early 2003. He was unlucky to not win the WGP in 2002.

7 & 8: Branko is a WGP champion, who did great things long after his physical prime. A monster. Mark Hunt too won the WGP in 2001, and his Cinderella story is littered with wins over elite fighters.

9: Badr is a young gun, and he will most likely shoot up the list in the years to come. He's reached two WGP finals, though only once according to the history books, as his famous temper let him down. Also It's Showtime HW champion.

10: How the fuck was I supposed to decide between Leko, Ignashov, Sefo and Musashi? None have won the World Grand Prix, but Leko and Ignashov have multiple K-1 tournament wins and world Muay Thai and kickboxing titles to their names, and Sefo and Musashi were elite names in K-1 for years. All have beaten a respectable list of legends and champions.

15: Mike Bernardo is a former multiple time World Muay Thai and kickboxing Super Heavyweight champion, and he has enjoyed success and rivalries with various K-1 legends (for example, 3-3 vs Peter Aerts) and he holds a respectable K-1 record.

This is only my opinion, of course.

What's your list?

1.hoost ..no need to explain that

2.aerts ..i think 2009 was the first k1 wgp final ever without aerts in the final 8 ...schilt may have more titles..but aerts is simpley the better fighter in my op

...if i remember right the only 2 times were sammy was able to beat aerts was at tournaments in the 3rd fight..sammy never beat aerts in a super fight ..anyways aerts had his prime in the 90´s...so aerts got wins over a prime schilt even past his prime
awesome skills ..peter aerts 102-28-1 ..77 by ko 28 decissions
best skill = size ..semmy schilt 37-6-1 ...just 17 by ko and 19 decissions
just my op anyways..

3.andy hug..lhw compete with top hw´s...there will never be a guy like him again

4.semmy..his big and got titles

also in my top 15 but cant decide a order
Jerome LeBanner
hari
cikatic
hunt
fihlo
leko
ignashov
bernado
sefo
reem

and the oscar goes to remy bonjasky ..for his awesome performance at the 2008 finale vs badr hari

Yeah, I thought people might have Aerts top 2 for sure.... to be fair, it's an absolute toss up in my opinion between Hoost, Schilt and Aerts.... Hoost and Aerts have amazing pedigrees and records, and Sem has 4 WGP wins in 5yrs, i.e. an era of dominance.

I might make Aerts and Sem my joint 2nd....

Also;

Nick, you have Leko higher on your list than mine! Great stuff haha

cheers

Yeah I agree,No1 is a debateable area when it comes to k-1.
As I said,I have Lumberjack No1 cause he is one of the old school
K-1 O.G's that not only competes but also made it to the final this year.Pretty astonishing
considering that competing in K-1 is like swimming with Sharks.

I also believe Leko could have made it to the top 5-7 if he
was more consistent

Iggy doesnt deserve to be near the "K-1" list

no doubt he could have been one of the greats, never have I seen such beautiful pure muay thai from such a large man, better mt than remy IMO but he only had limited k-1 experience before he threw it all away..

Ignashov is an absolute G, mate. And I took whole careers into account, it's more a K-1/kickboxing list to be honest. With that being said, I doubt there'll be much complaint for Alexey to be mentioned Very Happy

Anyone who saw that boy fight knows he's a G. His fights with Leko, Semmy and both young & adult Badr were quality.... c'mon, lighten up on Alexey Wink

Agreed with Nick too, but I aint drawing the line at #5! Haha... God knows where he'd be if he'd fought in the 2003 and 2004 World Grand Prix's... he was fave to win in 2003 before they axed him, then a guy he'd beaten a year prior wins the whole thing

That list is pretty much the same as mine, except Bernardo should be a bit higher imo. The greatest perpetual runner-up after JLB.

Also Sam Greco and Stan Longinidis deserve mentioning.

It was a joke.

Akebono is a sumo wrestler whos k1 career consisted of being iced by Remy

Also I have no idea how you can have Badr as number 2.
