There's something about slipping punches and frustrating better athletes with superior skill that I find more entertaining than vicious knockouts


perhaps I was raised off of too much tv and video games where the old, bearded martial arts master beats up the young, tough athletes with ease, but there is something poetic about watching big, athletic machines get dominated by skilled veterans with every-men types builds

who knows?


however, I am getting back into boxing (mma's name has been sullied so much by zuffa I don't even wanna call it mma anymore) and I am wondering who are your favorites current defensive specialists other than floyd?

lol , while i was reading your post in my mind i was already seeing pernell w in those crazy highlights on youtube , fuckin around with his opponents LOL. Other than floyd right now ? At that high level ? I don't know..I'm not connected to boxing these days.. Still the old guys come to mind .. Pernell , Locche.. since we're here , trow me 3-4 names , favourite defensive specialists .. i go first in no particular order with locche , pernell , floyd , roy jones.

locche was so talented. Other than pep, he might be my fav.

Lol he would barely train, go out drinking and smoking, then the next day come into a ring and completely frustrate some poor sap who thought he had the physical edge.

Arturo Gatti is my favorite defensive fighter of all time. The way he put his hands down and ate punches was amazing. Very Happy

but seriously, I've always liked Winky Wright.

Supposedly back in ancient Greek times the favorite way for a boxer to win was to embarrassing his opponent into quiting by being a defensive prowess.

At least thats what I read some where. Maybe it depended on region.

everyone loves a knockout, i dont mind defensive fighters just as long as they can get a ko in the space of 12 rounds.

if a fighter wins and his opponent doesnt even have a mark on his face then im pretty disappointed

I love Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn equally. And their feud wasn't just mainstream and notable for the intense hatred, they really WERE opposites, in the ring too. Defensive specialist and showboat Eubank, versus dangerous, psychotic blood crazed Benn.

As long as they can put on a good fight and box well, I dont care if they're aggressors or technicians
