They said on Bret's A&E Biography that the sharp shooter was supposedly a real submission move taught to him by his father Stu Hart. They said Stu learned it from his days as a catch wrester. Is that even remotely true?

The sharp shooter is a totally legitament "hook", just like the texas clover leaf, just like my favorite mat finisher the half botson crab. There was a time when pro-wrestling wasnt worked you know.

When I trained with Billy Robinson, he spoke fondly of Stu Hart. He said that Stu knew his stuff, but was far from the best wrestler in Canada at the time, and mentioned sombody else...mightve been Fred Carpintier, I dont recall the name.

You trained with Billy Robinson?! That's pretty tough, man.

Perhaps it was Edouard Carpentier?

Half boston crab is one leg hook right? as well isn't the texas clover leaf what dean malenko used to use as his finisher, sick moves, all crabs (hooks) & variations just look cool, and technical...(i remember dorie funk working that full boston crab in the late 70's)

Correct ! Half boston crab is with one leg, but spine,hip knee, ankle lock if done correctly and efficiently, but is mainly a viscious spine lock.

In a Sakuraba submission instructional he goes over how to set up a Texas Clover Leaf in mma...wait I just rememberd an Catch Instructional vid I seen once on it...here it is...

I actually came in here to post a video of the psycho driver, but saw that it was listed as #1 in the TS's video.

I was there live when he did the psycho driver on Taro. That match was epic, and Super Dragon still remains my favorite so cal pro wrestler of all time.

Too bad he's fat as hell now and has no desire to get back into pro wrestling.

If someone actually pulled off a half boston crab, texas cloverleaf, figure four, or a sharp shooter during an MMA match. I think I'd bust a nut right there on the spot.

Well if you look at one of my last grappling matchs I tried twice to put one on, and was able to hold one for a few seconds damaging my opponents back/leg. The fight is in the TT fights etc thread.

catch wrestling is pretty sick. would i be able to learn this stuff in no-gi or sub. wrestling?

Catch wrestling is more of an approach to grappling, then a system IMHO tho there a obvious differances stylisticly if you watch a catch wrestler vs. a judoka, or a bjj player.

So if you enter in to train sub-wrestling I would say, yes you may definetly be able to "learn" catch. Is basically a wrestling heavy game, w/ subs and more standing sub entrys then standard grappling systems with a very wide arsenal of subs to use.

There are stylistic micro-cosum's of CACC too if watch say , the differances between Kiyoshi Tamura, Katsuya Toida, and Tony Cecchine. Tho the underlying principles remain the same.

Catch is different from BJJ and Judo in that lineage doesn't mean much. Catch wasn't one style that was created and passed around in the same system. It was a bunch of different people doing submission wrestling.

Does wrestling now piss anyone off in terms of finishers? I swear someone kicks out of a finisher every fucking match now. What's the point of having a finisher if it doesn't finish the match 99% of the time?

I'm also annoyed that normal moves never finish matches anymore. A good high impact slam or aerial move should finish the match.

Pretty soon match will just be a move for move based event going from finisher to finisher untill sombody dies.

I mean, I really like ROH (only org I follow) but fuck...way too many big spots. The whole point of big spots is to be special. You shouldn't have tiger suplexes from the top turnbuckle every match, let alone have them not get 3 counts.

What happened to matches ending from german suplexes and DDT's?

I guess as mankind evolved we've just become immune to things like spine busters, and pile drivers....and I dont even beleave in evolution.
