Questions for BJJ Practictioners
I grapple a lot but have never really taken BJJ classes apart from 2 weeks at 10th Planet
I am having trouble with the Arm bar from mount every time I get then arm my opponents seem to be able to just turn into me negating the hold. Is it because my hips arn't close enough to their body?

Re: Questions for BJJ Practictioners
They're able to turn into you because you dont bite down hard enough with your leg over their face which gives them the space they need to sit up and rotate into you. Its crucial to control the space and isolate their head.

Re: Questions for BJJ Practictioners
Okay well then I have another question
Do you have both of your legs on the head side of the farside arm?
Or is that farside arm inbetween your legs?

Re: Questions for BJJ Practictioners
Sounds like you're not controlling the arm right . If your opponent is flat when you take off, what you described will happen every time. You have to control the arm even before you take off. He has to have one shoulder off the floor and you knee needs to close that distance.
Also both your feet have to hit the floor before you sit down. This is important. Watch this vid. It's step by step what you need to do.

You can have only one leg in front of the face by the farside arm and the other leg pressed tight against their body from the inside. The most important thing is to close their space off. When you put your foot down by their farside arm, make sure your heal is touching their face closing off any space they have.

Re: Questions for BJJ Practictioners
Try the armbar from S mount. Get into s mount and straighten both arms and keep them tight to your chest. Then align your hips to the side in order to fall, but before you do, hook their leg which is on the side you are going to fall back on, and keep both the arms locked with the other arm. Fall back and keep both arms and watch him grimace with his inability to hip escape or grap his own arm!
Ricardo Liborio showed me this setup and its been my favourite ever since. Im tired as tits right now, but I am sure there are lots of videos explaining this on youtube!

All submissions are enacted when you have posistion on sombody
Remeber for armbars.
Dont flop to your back.
Keep weight on opponent
Dont make space between you and him..STAY TIGHT !
POST ON HIS FACE WITH YOUR FREE HAND AND PIN HIS HEAD DOWN...THIS WILL KEEP HIM FROM ROLLING OR BRIDGING THIS IS KEY.
Also falling back cross-side with an armbar is good (think the letter T ). Falling back at a 45 degree angle from the shoulder might work a little better ( think the letter Y ). This should inact the lock quicker and stop a brdige and roll.
Make a "C-frame clamp" on the wrist of the attacked arm with both hands. You get more strength from here, and it also enacts the lock faster
Keep his thumb pointing up.
It is also possible to score a armbar with falling back at all from mount.
-Trap the arm.
-Keep your weight on your opponent.
-Push the attacked arm across his body
-Bring your leg up behind the attacked arm
-Grab at wrist and "pry" across the leg you have brought up to the attacked arm.
-Chances are if he dost tap, he is also in prime posistion to fall back for the standard arm bar.
Also...remember to Train Safely ! !
