Post by nhbnews Thu Feb 17, 2011 10:22 pm

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the Fernando Montiel-Nonito Donaire bantamweight title fight coming up Saturday, February 19, as well as the March 5 Saul Alvarez-Matthew Hatton and May 7 Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fights.

While a fight like Montiel-Donaire will likely provide excitement in the ring, the stench of the self-destructive politics of boxing is so pervasive that it is hard to enjoy much of anything these days in this declining business. We discuss the collapse of the boxing reform movement, and how the clock of doom is ticking for what is left of boxing.

I remember when it was a mainstream sport in America. That wasn't that long ago. Even ten years ago it was much more mainstream than now. The promoters and networks have destroyed it.

Yes, I was at a news conference they used in 'Assault in the Ring'. So now we have Margacheato!

I'll give it a listen.

I certainly share Eddie's sentiments, the promoters and networks have really fucked up boxing.

And heavyweight boxing is pathetic now. The lighterweights are what are still going strong.
