BIG K-1 Rumor

It's heavily rumored that a conglomerate from The Netherlands will purchase K-1 with the intent of bringing the organization to Madison Square Garden by December 2011 or early 2012. Apparently, Madison Square Garden signed a four-year deal with TAKE ON. K-1 will be sanctioned under WKA in a collaboration with TAKE ON.

If this is true.... holy shit.... i dont know what to say

it is the mill, but quite a few rumors have been legit

I hope so. As long as they keep regular rules when they go to the states. Kickboxing's judging is near perfect... compared to MMA and boxing of course. 90% right decisions, and you see them coming so you know who's gotta do what. That and allow leg kicks. I just don't want the comission to buttrape another great sport.

that k-1 will fail in the US.

K-1 can achieve a big fan base if its promoted right(having American fighter for
example).The thing is that Boxing promoters WONT leave something like that
happen

K1 could capture alot of the boxing fans that have something against MMA in the States. Especially since there arent alot of great HW matchups to offer. I think if its promoted correctly it can be huge.


I also heard of the sale. Things could get intetesting.

If they want to do this correctly, they need to stack the card with all the names they can get and introduce the American crowd to the elite with showcase matches. It would be much easier if there were more solid American kickboxers and not just Mark Miller and Carter Williams.

They need Saki, Hari, Aerts, Ghita, Zimmerman, etc. All those that can guarantee memorable fights.

lol the source for the first part was from me and I know the second one as well.

The original plan was for K-1 to promote in New York with another promotion in MSG a few years ago, in December as well.

This sounds like the exact same rumor but with TAKE ON instead, as TAKE ON is the new "it" promotion in NYC. If this does for some reason happen expect it to happen in the Theater at MSG (formerly the WaMu Theater) as opposed to MSG proper. The Theater is where the NBA draft airs from and holds about 5,000 fans as opposed to MSG's 20,000.
