Top 5 Greatest MAX Fighters
Here is mine. Try to keep it about MAX so no guys like Hippoylte. MAX is so young ranking past 1-5 seems too difficult.
1) Masato - Yes everyone knows I am a huge Masato fan. But I honestly believes he deserves it. MAX GP winner in 2003 & 2008, runner up in 2004 and 2007(2007 being a inspirational run) with a solid 55-5 record. He avenged every loss he had, and beat everyone in the division. Best boxing in the division and retired at the peak of his career. Masato = MAX
2) Buakaw Por Promuk - A monster. The best Thai fighter no doubt to translate into K-1 rules, this man went on a dominating run, picking up MAX GP titles in the process until Masato edged him in 2007. Has something like 200 wins on record, who knows how many more in actuality. Still on the roll, rumours of him competing in the 63 kg K1 are in circulation.
3) Andy Souwer - Technically brilliant Dutch fighter, the man who burst onto the scene in 05 and simultaneously ruined the National Geographic Documentary "Kick Fighters" at the same time. Also picked up another grand prix win in 2007, over a battleworn Masato. Seemed to have started to fall off, but the fire seems to be lit as he is on a nice win streak.
4) Giorgio Petrosayan - If you have seen him fight, then I wont have to explain. Pure Machine. Picked up two titles in 09-10 with only showing brief moments of weakness vs Zambidis. I only rank him down because the level of competition he faced to get his two titles wasnt as strong as it used to be, and he failed to beat Buakaw in thei ronly encounter. Youngest guy on the list, it looks as if his reign is just starting. Will almost certainly catapult through the rankings as time passes.
5) Albert Kraus - The original! Good looks and great boxing - the first MAX winner. Part of the reason MAX had so many female fans. Only had one title so I felt he deserved his spot here, great fighter nonetheless, perhaps a bit more one dimensional than the others.

Buakaw
Masato
Souwer
Petrosyan
Kraus
Obviously Hippolyte would be top 3 otherwise, and technically he should be as the K-3 tournament he won was basically the precursor to what became "MAX"

Damn you both! Those were the two lists I was waffling over posting. I think Souwer comes in second though because his best fights are yet to come and he has accomplished so much in the sport thus far. Don't know about his technicality though Will, because as I see it he relies quite a bit on his freakish strength and athleticism. This thread is long overdue by the way...

Will ranked Masato over Buakaw due to personal bias and the fact Masato won the rematch - i.e. a straw man argument

This list isnt "Top 5 MMA also-rans with shock wins in Shootboxing"
Made me chuckle when he did though. So much for booking it for a Buakaw/Souwer finale

Re: Top 5 Greatest MAX Fighters
Aside from the argument over who is #1 between Masato/Buakaw/Souwer, I think you have about as good of a list as you can. I really think the top 3 are interchangeable.
