Catching up... Kickboxing Matches to watch
So I just sort of got into kickboxing following Overeem. I fucking love it though. Generally more than MMA. I watched my first MAX this year too, and Zambo vs Chalid was the most insane thing I've seen in combat sports. That one at the year end at It's Showtime was pretty insane as well. Anyways, help a noob out. List me some "Must Sees" please.

JLB vs Goodridge? I'm surprised JLB didn't murder him. Goodridge is lucky to be alive.

Re: Catching up... Kickboxing Matches to watch
I'll keep this to K-1 and It's Showtime style thai-boxing (no elbows) as I think that's what you're getting into.
Not saying these are (necessarily) the greatest, but some of my favourites:
Stefan Leko vs Peter Aerts I
Stefan Leko vs Peter Aerts II
Stefan Leko vs Remy Bonjasky I
Stefan Leko vs Badr Hari I
Stefan Leko vs Badr Hari II
Stefan Leko vs Alexey Ignashov I
Stefan Leko vs Nicholas Pettas
Stefan Leko vs Mark Hunt I
Stefan Leko vs Mark Hunt II
Stefan Leko vs Cyril Abidi
Stefan Leko vs Melvin Manhoef
Melvin Manhoef vs Ruslan Karaev
Melvin Manhoef vs Remy Bonjasky I
Melvin Manhoef vs Denes Racz
Melvin Manhoef vs ANYONE!
Mark Hunt vs Ray Sefo
Mark Hunt vs Jerome LeBanner I
Mark Hunt vs Mirko Filipovic
Mirko Filipovic vs Musashi
Mirko Filipovic vs Remy Bonjasky
Mirko Filipovic vs Ernesto Hoost II
Ernesto Hoost vs Jerome LeBanner I
Ernesto Hoost vs Jerome LeBanner II
Ernesto Hoost vs Bob Sapp I
Ernesto Hoost vs Bob Sapp II
Bob Sapp vs Kimo Leopoldo
Andy Hug vs Mirko Filipovic
Andy Hug vs Ernesto Hoost
Alistair Overeem vs Badr Hari I
Semmy Schilt vs Badr Hari I
Semmy Schilt vs Badr Hari II
Semmy Schilt vs Peter Aerts III
Jerome LeBanner vs Cyril Abidi
Ray Sefo vs Andy Hug II
I generally like a lot of the guys I posted multiple fights from: Hunt, Leko, JLB Aerts, Manhoef and Hari between them have had some of the most exciting HW fights in major league kickboxing
That's just at heavyweight (apart from Manhoef vs Racz - 85MAX) and there's enough there to be getting on with. As for K-1 MAX, anything below 95MAX for It's Showtime, and of course international Muay Thai, there's so many good fights out there to find it's not even funny.
Enjoy

Yep. MMA was on the level of excitement that kickboxing holds when guys would fight each other in Pride, not try and play a ball game of control, and position. They were both sitting at a 9, or 10, then the wave of cage humpers brought it down to a 6.5 for me. Nothing compares to the Grand Prix's for me. The MAX will have all but two fights go to a decision, but they're fucking exciting decisions. They're constantly landing shots that would drop anyone other than pro kickboxers. They don't stand in the cage and circle "feeling each other out" for a minute and a half of every fight, then basically for the rest of the fight, for fear of a takedown. Kickboxers fortunately, still want to fight each other. If they had events more often, and there was more people to talk about it with on forums in English, I wouldn't still be watching MMA.

Re: Catching up... Kickboxing Matches to watch
Seeing as I just posted this in another thread, if you want to try to get into Full Thai rules boxing, and not just the populist K-1 rules stuff, try this site.
http://thaiboxingtube.com/
Plenty of blogs out there to keep up to date with the Muay Thai scene in Europe and to a lesser extent even Thailand itself, and dig around - you'd be surprised at the gems you could find. More fights are making it onto youtube now, even old fights of Dutch guys like Kaman and Dekkers in the Thai stadiums, or in Holland, France, England etc.
K-1 is great and all, and obviously dominated its own market, but Full Thai rules is something else, with standing elbows and the clinch it's a whole different game, and you should enjoy it as well as the more generic "kickboxing". It's where it all came from!
